Privacy policy ยท Effective November 4, 2026
Oriel collects no data.
Oriel connects your iPhone, iPad or Mac straight to a computer you choose, over SSH. Nothing passes through us, and nothing about you or your use of the app is sent to us or to anyone else.
No account. No analytics. No advertising. No tracking. No third-party services that collect data.
What stays on your device
To work, Oriel keeps a few things on the device you use it on. They are never sent to us.
- Your Oriel key. On first use Oriel creates an Ed25519 key pair. The private key is kept in this device's Keychain, is not synced through iCloud and never leaves the device. You copy the public key to your own computer yourself.
- Your desktops. The addresses (user, host and port) and names of the computers you add.
- Host keys you trusted. The public SSH host key of each computer, so Oriel can warn you if it changes.
- Your last session with each desktop. The window's name, when the session ended and a small image of its last frame, shown on the Hosts screen.
- Where windows came from. While a window is on Oriel's display, Oriel notes its original workspace so it can put it back, even after a lost connection.
Removing a desktop in Oriel removes its address, name, trusted host key and last session. Deleting the app removes all of them, except the Keychain item, which the system may keep until you erase the device. Your device's own backups may include the addresses, names, trusted host keys and the notes of where windows came from, as they do for other apps; the last-session images are kept out of backups.
What goes to your computer
When you connect, Oriel signs in to the computer you added with your Oriel key and exchanges, over the encrypted SSH connection, what a session needs: the list of open windows, the video of the window you chose, and your clicks, scrolling and typing. This data goes only between your device and your computer. We do not operate any server in between and cannot see it.
Permissions
- Local Network (iPhone and iPad): asked only when you connect to a computer on your local network, so Oriel can reach it.
Oriel does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
Children
Oriel collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new effective date. A change that would collect data would also be shown in the app's App Store privacy details before it ships.
